Pembrey - May 12/13th 2007

Our first visit to this circuit with both Richard and the car was a very wet one.

It rained most of the time, usually very heavily so it was an interesting weekend.

Qualifying was on very old (four years!) tyres, by lap three they were done, I should have realised this straight away as Richard was taking corners with nearly full lock as he had very little bite at the front end. He came into the pits a few times, we made changes, but all to no avail.

The session ended with a very unhappy driver and manager, both believing we were at least fifth or sixth on the grid. Surprise and delight was our reaction when we saw the times and realised we were on Pole.

The second lap out the fastest of the day, proves that Richard is just able to be on the pace straight out of the box.

Race day, WET,   rolling start and away he went, first corner new to the series but ex Radical/Supersport front runner, Robert Oldershaw, was past Tom Mills at the hairpin. Richard sped away hotly pursued by Robert, Tom and the pack.

By lap five Richard had settled into a solid pattern and gradually pulled out a lead. By the end of the race he had lapped everyone up to fourth place and was twenty-six seconds ahead of Robert Oldershaw in his new Juno. Robert was challenged by Tom Mills over the last lap, Tom recorded the fastest race lap and would have been second if the race had run its full length as he was much quicker than the slowing Juno.

Pole and race win on old pattern tyres was yet again a great result for us. We hope to have the new bodywork on for Snetterton, but as I am away for three weeks prior, it may not happen.

Rupert Russell was very quick in the dry Saturday free practise, setting the fastest time of the day. I predicted he would be quick now he has all our latest bits and set –up for his car. I hope he is not so quick that we have a problem beating him!!!
