2006 Sports 2000 Duratec Champion

Richard Johnson is the new British Sports 2000 Champion for 2006.

In his first full season, the Ancaster Kart Racing supported driver has dominated the series.

Richard has had five outright wins and two, second places in his Van Diemen race-car.

He has taken on vastly more experienced racers in one of the best-supported series on the race calendar.  Racing  at Oulton Park, Rockingham, Thruxton and Brands Hatch,  he has destroyed the opposition whenever the track has been wet. At Thruxton he lapped everyone up to second place in the half hour race.

Richard who is a director and manager of Ancaster Kart Racing has the obvious advantage of being able to race at his own circuit albeit in Karts, but this takes nothing away from his undoubted ability to adapt to new tracks in different equipment.

A memorable race this year at Silverstone, where without prior practise he took on Nigel Greensall, a professional driver in the works Lola.

Richard battled side by side for 30 minutes, exchanging the lead several times before crossing the line, point 06 of a second astray. He recorded the fastest race lap and Nigel was very complimentary about Richards driving admitting it was a tough race for him.

Richard was be presented with his Championship awards at the celebratory dinner in December, meanwhile you can see him on Motors TV and channel 5 later this year in his final race win at a very wet Brands Hatch Formula Ford Festival.

Richard has carried the TV in car camera at several events this year as he has already gained the reputation as the man to watch.
