End of year Ball

We attended the year-end presentation ball at Bosworth hall hotel. It was a first class evening with much merriment and shared storytelling.

Mike Wilds orchestrated the presentation, ex FI driver and father of Anthony a fellow competitor. In the region of 150 people attended and the auction raised a substantial sum for club funds.
Nik was presented with the trophy for the overall championship and also the class A winner. The Lola of Jonathan Loader was found to have an underweight flywheel/clutch combination at the post- season eligibility check and so lost the points for the last Brands Hatch event. It did not change the overall position but allowed us to capture the class award as well.

At the annual general meeting held in the afternoon, several points were discussed and the odd change to the rules clarified or changed. It looks like there may be a driver/car- combined weight adopted next year, this would be a fair way of balancing out the varying weights of drivers in the relatively low horsepower cars.

Deanne my wife, and I along with Richard my youngest son and his Australian girlfriend Lizi, left the ball in good time as Richard was representing our Paintball operation in a competition the following day. Richard has decided to pursue this activity for the present time and all of the racers should be pleased as he was a very quick driver in karts, it would have been a pain for them I am sure to have another Johnson in the series. Speaking of which, I am now looking forward to next season and driving again. I could be in the Pinto or maybe the Duratec, just depends on who else is doing what and the need to keep you guessing!

Nik stayed at the party until nearly five am, you can tell when a chap has been married for a year!
We have acquired the works Van Diemen and are having a new Duratec engine fitted by Griffin Motorsport. This car is for sale and interested parties are welcome to contact me. We are moving from Scholar Engines to see if Dave Isles at Griffin can improve on the reliability aspect. Dave and our own Rupert Russell from the series are in close contact as Rupert has expert knowledge in that area. I have no doubt that the outcome will be positive as I am sure Scholar will also sort out the few niggles.

Autosport show in January is the next date for us, we will be showing both the Duratec on the Van Diemen stand and the Pinto on the SRCC stand.

As it is now nearly the end of 2002, may we wish all our viewers a very happy Christmas and a successful New Year.
